KO OLINA GOLF CLUB TO UNVEIL

"LUCKY LADYBUG GIRL" STATUE

KO OLINA (October 24, 2011) – On Wednesday, October 26th, Ko Olina Golf Club will unveil its Lucky Ladybug Girl statue to the public. The “Lucky Ladybug” name comes from Ko Olina Golf Club’s “Legend of the Ladybug” that was first coined in 1990.
“Legend says that if she lands on your shoulder, sweet talk her to your finger and with a gentle breath, send her off," said Greg Nichols, Ko Olina Golf Club General Manager. "Lady Luck will lead you to the cup.”

The Lucky Ladybug Girl statue is inspired by LPGA golfer and Hawaii native Michelle Wie, who grew up learning to play golf at Ko Olina Golf Club as a youngster. Among other notable junior golfers who got their start at Ko Olina Golf Club is Mariel Galdiano, a Maryknoll 8th grader who qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open at the age of 12.

The statue itself was modeled after two junior golfers from the Ho‘okipa I Po‘okela Junior Golf Program. Ho‘okipa I Po‘okela is a non-profit golf program for juniors from the Nanakuli school district. The program’s primary purpose is to positively impact the lives of Nanakuli students by providing learning and playing opportunities for them in the games of golf.
