Ko Olina Golf Academy Monthly Newsletter: July 2011
Summer is in full swing after a great 4th of July weekend, and what better time to continue the PGA's efforts to support or military service members worldwide. August is recognized by the PGA as Patriot Golf Month, and we at Ko Olina are proud to be leaders in this great initiative!
What is Patriot Golf Month?
Patriot Golf Month is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to children and spouses of military men & women killed or disabled serving our country. Beginning in August and culminating with Labor Day weekend festivities, Ko Olina Golf Club, in association with the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association, will be participating in Patriot Golf Month activities to raise funds for the Folds of Honor. As part of our ongoing efforts in giving back to the military community, the golf club is also offering FREE 1/2 hour golf lessons to Wounded Warriors. Along with this great fundraiser for our troops, we at Ko Olina Golf Club are also offering many other programs and promotions.

Tip of the Month
How to Make More Short Putts
The Problem:
We as golfers often struggle with missing short putts. This can lead to disappointment and mental anguish.
The Cause:
Often times short putts are missed due to the player pre-maturely lifting his or her head before the stroke is complete.
The Solution:
To make more short putts you should focus your attention more on the ball and stroke, and less on the results of the shot. Rather than looking up to see if the ball is on your intended line (which will tend to cause a putt to be pulled offline), you should instead listen for the ball to drop into the hole.
Practice this technique, and you will be making more short putts in no time!
Below, PGA Golf Professional Ryan DeBois demonstrates how he keeps his head down through the putting stroke:
