Music and movies will get top billing at the
Ko Olina Children's Film and Music Festival
Jan. 18.

The festival will be held on the beach at the Kohola Lagoon (Lagoon No. 1) and throughout the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa and the Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, properties. Aulani will use some of its meeting rooms as theaters to screen the Disney films "Finding Nemo" and "The Little Mermaid"; Hawaii-related films like the recently released "Haumana"; Hawaii-related children's films; and surf and ocean films.

In addition, "The Lion King" will be screened on the beach at sunset.

There will also be live performances by Honolulu Theatre for Youth and the Performing Arts Center of Kapolei.

Local recording artist Robi Kahakalau will lead singalongs, and the female ukulele duo Honoka and Azita will entertain. Other activities include Hawaiian Makahiki games, face-painting, arts and crafts, clowns, jugglers, magicians, appearances by Disney characters and more.

The festival is a benefit for the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, which will provide a health and safety clinic.

The event starts at 1 p.m. and goes to 8 p.m. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for kids ages 4-12. For those wishing to spend the night, the JW Marriott Ihilani is offering a special room rate of $229 per night; Aulani rooms start at $269 per night.
