Disney Theatrical Productions plans Hawaii announcement
It looks like Disney Theatrical Productions could be coming to Hawaii.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Disney Theatrical Productions and WestCoast Entertainment say they have a “very special announcement” to make later this month. (For those of you wanting to mark your calendars, the formal announcement is scheduled for March 26.)
Mei Jeanne Wagner, who handles the Disney Theatrical Productions account for Anthology Marketing Group, told me the announcement is regarding their presence here in Hawaii.
Disney Theatrical Productions’ current presence is nonexistent.
Wagner was careful not to say too much, as she is not at liberty to.
But this could be great news for the City & County of Honolulu, owner of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, which could easily be home to Disney Theatrical Productions’ shows. The Blaisdell Center hosted the Broadway musical “Wicked” for nearly two months this winter.
Disney Theatrical Group, a division of Disney, is a commercial theater enterprise that produces or licenses live entertainment events in more than 40 countries around the world. Those Broadway musicals include “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Newsies” and more.
