KO OLINA CHARITIES Ko Olina Charities, a 501 (c) (3) organization, was established in 2003 by Ko Olina Resort & Marina. The Ko Olina Resort Operators Association, its mission, as a responsible corporate citizen, is to:
Ko Olina Charities has funded or assisted with the following community-based programs: Ko Olina Training Fund, Ko Olina Thanksgiving Outreach, Fields Open in Hawaii, Ko Olina Kids, Searider Productions and Pai'olu Kaiaula Waianae Emergency Homeless Shelter. The Ko Olina Training Fund: Since 2003, the Ko Olina Training Fund has assisted nearly 1,000 West Oahu residents in various educational and training programs by providing over $1.3 million in assistance. Working hand-in-hand with local leaders, its goal has been to train and educate individuals to be a part of the hospitality industry workforce, from entry-level jobs to preparing for upgrades and promotions and executive level positions. UPDATE: The Ko Olina Training Fund was established in conjunction with the $75 million Revitalization Tax Credit signed by Governor Lingle in 2003. Prior to the opening of the 2007 Legislative Session, Senator Colleen Hanabusa asked Ko Olina to support redirecting the Tax Credit funds towards more pressing social and educational issues since Ko Olina had already achieved its goal in reaching over $1 billion in economic stimulation for the West Honolulu Region. See the Star-Bulletin Article, "Ko Olina Resort returns tax credit of $75 million". In light of this new initiative, Ko Olina has suspended Training Fund allocations until a new bill is passed. Attached is Senate Bill No. 1363, part of a package put forth by Governor Lingle and introduced to the Legislature by Senator Hanabusa. Ko Olina Resort will continue to expand its role as an economic engine for West Oahu and the entire State by providing education, training and job opportunities for West Oahu residents. To date, Ko Olina has created almost 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. We will also continue to work with Governor Lingle, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, and the State Legislature on the re-allocation of these tax credits to benefit the Waianae coast. For those individuals and families who have already benefited from the Training Fund, we hope you will continue to participate in and support your local community. |
